lets make Pizza with a Crown Crust

Crown Crust Pizza Recipe

Ingredients:

  • For the dough:
    • 1 cup warm water (105° to 115°F)
    • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
    • 1 teaspoon sugar
    • 2 tablespoons olive oil
    • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
    • 1 teaspoon salt
  • For the sauce:
    • 1 tablespoon olive oil
    • 1/2 onion, chopped
    • 2 cloves garlic, minced
    • 1 (28-ounce) can crushed tomatoes
    • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
    • 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
    • 1/4 teaspoon salt
    • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • For the toppings:
    • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
    • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
    • Your favorite pizza toppings (such as pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms, onions, and bell peppers)

Instructions:

  1. To make the dough, combine the warm water, yeast, and sugar in a large bowl and let stand for 5 minutes, until the yeast is foamy.
  2. Add the olive oil, flour, and salt to the yeast mixture and stir until a dough forms.
  3. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes, until the dough is smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  5. While the dough is rising, make the sauce. Heat the olive oil in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add the onion and garlic and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
  6. Add the crushed tomatoes, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper to the saucepan and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 15 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened slightly.
  7. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  8. Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it in half.
  9. Roll out one half of the dough into a 12-inch circle. Place the dough on a lightly greased baking sheet.
  10. Spread the sauce evenly over the dough, leaving a 1-inch border around the edge.
  11. Sprinkle the mozzarella cheese and Parmesan cheese over the sauce.
  12. Add your favorite pizza toppings.
  13. Cut the remaining half of the dough into 16 strips.
  14. Arrange the strips of dough around the edge of the pizza, overlapping them slightly.
  15. Pinch the ends of the strips together to form a crown.
  16. Bake the pizza for 15-20 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  17. Let the pizza cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.

Tips:

  • For a more flavorful crust, brush the dough with olive oil before adding the sauce and toppings.
  • If you want a crispier crust, prebake the crust for 5-7 minutes before adding the toppings.
  • Feel free to get creative with your toppings! Try adding different types of meats, cheeses, and vegetables to your pizza.
  • If you have any leftover pizza, it can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or in the freezer for up to 3 months.

Enjoy!
